The Gentle Way

About Judo

Judo is a traditional Japanese martial art founded in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. The word “Judo” means “the gentle way.” This discipline focuses on using an opponent’s strength and movement against them, achieving maximum efficiency with minimal effort.

Core Principles of Judo

  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Judo teaches how to redirect the opponent’s energy to gain control
  • Respect and Discipline: Practitioners learn to respect partners, coaches, and opponents while maintaining high levels of discipline
  • Self-Development: Judo promotes both physical and mental growth, building self-confidence and focus

Benefits of Judo

  • Physical Development: Training improves strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination
  • Mental Development: Judo enhances focus, self-control, and problem-solving skills
  • Social Skills: Group classes encourage teamwork, communication, and mutual respect
